Memorial Day

Sc000d57cf_2

Every Memorial Day for the last five years we have gone to the Memorial Day Service at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana. My husband served in the Special Forces as a Green Beret from 1983-91 and today holds profound meaning to him, as well as other veterans and their families.

My favorite part of the ceremony is when they ask the veterans from each branch of the service to stand and be acknowledged. I know in that sea of men and women there are stories of sacrifice, heartbreak and pride. It makes me want to stop and talk to each one. Today there was a survivor of Peal Harbor. He stood small and fragile and everyone stood to honor his sacrifice. What his eyes' have seen is what today is all about.

Is his beret actually green?

I've never been to a Memorial Day event. I keep thinking I will some year, but I'm such a sap that I'd probably just cry the whole time -- truly. A salute to your husband and to all who have served.
